The museum building, Tarvaspää, is closed for public from 16th Sep 2024 to 8th Feb 2025. The Gallen-Kallela Museum will open again on Saturday 8th of February 2025.

Renovations at a historic building

Tarvaspää is considered to be one of the significant studio villas from the 1900s in Finland. The studio building Tarvaspää, wooden Villa Linudd and the smoke sauna on museum premises are protected as Built cultural heritage sites of national significance defined in the Land-Use and Building Act.

The renovations started in September 2024 are preceded by comprehensive research and planning. In the phase started this fall the historic roof lantern window of the gallery room will be repaired as well as the gallery’s tin roofing. Also the entrance loggia’s sunken flooring plus some of the pillars are repaired. The renovations are a part of a long-term maintenance plan distributed to 2024–2029.

Renovation plans are designed by Livady architects specialized in historic construction repairing. The contractor is Restaurointi S. Oy. Renovations are supported financially by the City of Espoo, The Finnish Heritage Agency and the Ministry of Education and Culture of Finland.
