Juxtapositions – Kimmo Kaivanto & Akseli Gallen-Kallela (10.02.–26.05.2024)

Kimmo Kaivanto (1932–2012) was a versatile artist and is particularly well-known for his artistic commitment to nature and peace. The Tarvaspää exhibition is an essay-like reflection on the points of contact in the art of Kaivanto and Akseli Gallen-Kallela (1865–1931): the relationship with nature, thematic shifts from one means of expression to another and inspiring experimentation with new forms and materials.

The artists share a romantic attitude to Finnish nature and sensitivity to its details – both their artworks feature gentle breezes and clouds rising from the horizon.

The exhibition showcases paintings, drawings, prints, industrial art and collections of objects. The exhibition is organised in collaboration with the Kimmo Kaivanto Foundation and curated by Kimmo Sarje (PhD).
