This article will guide you through the booking process and give you detailed information about what to expect from our tours and from your visit.

What to Expect When Visiting

The Gallen-Kallela Museum operates in an atelier house designed and built by Finnish artist Akseli Gallen-Kallela (1865–1931). Construction of the house was completed in 1913. The museum has been operating in the building since 1961. The building itself is small, but the beautiful garden, Villa Linudd with our museum café, and the traditional Finnish smoke sauna make it worth the visit!

Tarvaspää is one of Finland’s most important early 20th-century studio buildings. It was built to serve as an artist’s studio and as a small exhibition space, and we honour this legacy by organising changing exhibitions. You can find more information about our current exhibitions via this link.

Accessibility Information

Because we operate in a historic house, there are some limitations to accessibility. We have gathered detailed information on our website to help you plan your visit. If you have accessibility needs and are visiting the museum with a personal assistant, they are always welcome free of charge. You can find accessibility details and other tips via this link.

What Kind of Weekly Tours Do We Offer

We offer a weekly guided tour in English, included in the museum ticket price, every Saturday at 3 pm. If you’re visiting on a Saturday, it’s the perfect opportunity! Even if you’ve joined one of these tours before, we highly recommend coming again.

Our guides are professionals with backgrounds in different fields, and they tailor each tour based on their own unique expertise. We provide regular training, and our guides are valued members of our museum team.

If you’re visiting for the first time and would like to know more about the building or the artist, please let our guides know. Our weekly open guided tours normally focus on current exhibition.

How to Book a Private Guided Tour

  • We recommend emailing us at info@gallen-kallela.fi instead of calling. This ensures that we have your detailed contact information and preferred dates for booking.

  • Any accessibility needs or preferences.

Why Choose a Guided Tour?

Although our museum building may be small, it holds a wealth of fascinating stories. The unique architecture, the artist’s life, and our changing exhibitions truly come to life through the words of our guides. Wall texts and apps can provide information, but nothing compares to a person sharing stories, insights, and bringing both the art and the history to life — while answering your questions in real time.

Book your tour today and experience the Gallen-Kallela Museum like never before!
